Where's the best places to stay in Ireland
I'm considering taking the missus to Ireland for her 40th, round about March 2016, for 3-4 days

I'm not over-enthausiastic on Dublin, as I've been told it's too touristy, and would prefer somewhere quieter and more traditional.

I've been eyeing up Cork or Kerry but still unsure as this could be too remote.

I've had a look online, but much prefer to Whoogle things these days.

Thanks in advance

Re: Where's the best places to stay in Ireland
Went for a nice country walk on the Dingle Peninsula about 25 years ago with the then GF now wife (really was the middle of nowhere) and had the 'walk into the pub and none of the dozen locals said a word while we sat and had our drinks' experience.

Other than that it was a great place... had a great picnic sitting in a field above the sea looking out to the Basket Islands (?) without a cloud in the sky.... wasn't March though!

Stay on the ferry and get straight back to England as soon as possible, preferably London.

Love visiting Ireland. Best places so far:

1.Galway
2. West Cork - Schull, Skibbereen etc. Kinsale is lovely, Cork city ok.
3. Dingle (Kerry)
4. Dublin, stayed southside.
5. Waterford/Dungarvon, nice town, beaches.

But Galway is a great place - very tempted to get out there for the film festival next year.

Cavan Town.

Little known part of Ireland but it's like one of those beaches where the locals only go in hot countries.

A cultural mecca and red hot night life. Book two weeks there and you won't have time to breath.

Perfect long weekend

Fly into Shannon and hire a car, places like Ennis are nice and along the coast got the Cliffs of Moher if rugged coastline is your think. I really liked Connemara which is further up the coast as well.

Lily is bang on. Galway or Westport. Beautiful scenery. Great pubs restaurants etc. Have lived in Mayo for 20 years. Work in Westport. Great spot for short break. Fly into knock airport from stansted or Luton or Gatwick. Happy to advise in more detail via whomail.

Kilkenny is a cracking place. There's a big comedy festival there which I've been to a couple of times. I also like Athlone, beautifully set on the river. Ring of Kerry is great really friendly locals but fucking hard to understand.

Mallard,

Good selections below. But based on the details of your last post..Killarney would be number 1 tip for you.

Killanneyshuttebus.com willget you around for a bit of sight seeing. Pubs will have trad music session. Easy to walk about for food and drink options.

The I'd say Galway, or better still Westport (less tourists).

Matt Molloy of the Chieftains has a pub and music venue on Bridge Street, according to wiki.
